Indian Wars

.45-70. 27.875" barrel. NSN. Blued finish, full-length walnut stock with two spring retained barrel bands. Repeating bolt action rifle with tubular magazine in butt, 1879 pattern ladder rear sight is correctly marked "C-R", combination musket style front sight and bayonet lug, sling swivels, stacking swivel, double shoulder cleaning rod. Top left edge of receiver marked U.S.-SPRINGFIELD-1884. Upper reverse of butt with SWP/1884 cartouche. The butt is also carved H 14 IV, possibly to indicate Company H, 14th infantry. 753 of these bolt action rifles were produced for field trials at Springfield in 1884 but the design was not adopted for general issue. A rare and interesting Indian Wars period US military rifle. Includes a US M1887 rifle sling. {ANTIQUE}

Very good. Bore mostly bright with moderate amounts of oxidation and frosting and strong rifling. Metal with some blue remaining and a moderate amount of scattered oxidation and surface roughness.
